Dipl. Ing. Heinrich Katz, the co-founder of Hermetia Baruth GmbH (second co-founder is the entomologist Dr. Peter Katz) is responsible for all engineering issues in the management of HBG as an authorised signatory. In particular for the technical operation and the further development of the pilot plant, as well as the planning and realization of the first large-scale production plant with an output of several thousand tons of protein, fat, insect fertilizer and chitin per year. In 2006 HBG was the first company to succeed in establishing a functioning mass breeding of the Black Soldier Fly in Europe.
After studying mechanical engineering at the University of Stuttgart, graduating with a Dipl.-Ing. degree, he completed a management trainee program at IBM Deutschland GmbH. After working in Sindelfingen, Hannover and Pougkeepsie USA, he became production manager for multilayer printed circuit boards at the Sindelfingen plant. After more than 10 years at IBM, he moved to the management consultancy Ernst&Young. As Principal Consultant and authorized signatory he was project manager for several multinational projects in Shanghai (China), Atlanta (USA), Montreal (Canada). Greenock (Scotland), Berlin (Germany) and Vienna (Austria).
He is co-founder of Katz Biotech AG, Germany's leading company in the field of pest control with beneficial insects (insects and predatory mites) and currently (2019) Chairman of the Supervisory Board.
