Farm & Food 2020DataConnect is a manufacturer-independent data standard. In an interview, Roland Brenneke (John Deere) and Frank Drexler (CLAAS E-Systems) explain the motivation and benefits of this new standard: Digitization brings simplicity to data exchange. In the interests of our customers, we want to network data, because the classic application for companies is the mixed fleet.

FARM & FOOD: TELL US ABOUT DATACONNECT. HOW DID THE COOPERATION BETWEEN CLAAS E-SYSTEM AND JOHN DEERE COME ABOUT?
Frank Drexler (CLAAS E-Systems): The motivation for us to start this project was that we said quite clearly that we wanted to network machines with each other for the benefit of the customer. The customer has this technology in his company. The classic use case is the mixed fleet and here data connectivity is a key function and customer requirement. We were motivated to fulfill this accordingly with DataConnect.
Roland Brenneke (John Deere): Digitalisation above all brings the customer the simplicity of exchanging data, as we can now do from cloud to cloud. We have the five major manufacturers on board for this.
Frank Drexler (CLAAS E-Systems): As a provider of agricultural technology, I believe we are also called upon to further develop agriculture. We have to meet the major challenges of the future to ensure food security for people. To do this, we must increase production, we must do it sustainably and we must use the efficiency opportunities offered by digitalisation. We believe that it is important to have more participants.
WHAT DO YOU EXPECT FROM THE UPCOMING FARM & FOOD CONFERENCE?
Roland Brenneke (John Deere): The door for DataConnect is open to everyone. I want to meet manufacturers, organisations and the food industry at Farm & Food.
Frank Drexler (CLAAS E-Systems): For us it is of course relevant that we have a very broad exchange, as my colleague from John Deere has already said. We are an open approach, we want to win many partners to generate this data stream.
